1. "International" consists of affiliates that have operations spanning more than one country and that
are engaged in petroleum shipping, other water transportation, or offshore oil and gas drilling.
2. "Eastern Europe" comprises Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia,
Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia,
Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Beginning with 2004 data, "Eastern Europe" is no longer
shown.
3. The European Union (12) comprises Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland,
Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
The European Union (15) comprises the European Union (12) and the three countries--Austria, Finland, and
Sweden--that joined the Union in 1995.
The European Union (25) is comprised of the European Union (15) and the 10 countries--Cyprus, the Czech
Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia--that joined the Union
in May 2004.
The European Union (27) is comprised of the European Union (25) and the 2 countries--Bulgaria and Romania
--that joined the Union in January 2007.
4. Beginning with 1995, OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) comprises Algeria, Indonesia,
Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. Prior to
1995, Gabon was a member. In 2007, Angola became a member. Ecuador reactivated its membership in OPEC in
late-2007 and its data are included beginning with the first quarter of 2008.
