The Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) is an establishment-industry classification system that is prepared by the Office of Management and Budget for use by all federal statistical agencies.

The SIC is used in the presentation of the state and local area estimates of earnings and employment by industry. It is used by BEA for the estimates for the private sector only, although it is designed to cover both public and private economic activities.

In the SIC, establishments are classified by the primary activity in which they are engaged, and each establishment is assigned an industry code.

You may search for any SIC 4-digit SIC code or industry meaning at U.S. Department of Labor.
