eFile Secure Messaging FAQ

Information on the BEA eFile Secure Messaging System

  • What is the Secure Messaging System?

  • The Secure Messaging System is an encrypted and secure way to correspond with the BEA about your confidential survey-related business information.

  • Do I have to use the Secure Messaging System to communicate with the BEA?

  • The Secure Messaging System is the best way to correspond with BEA and ensure that your confidential business information remains protected. You can also reach us by phone using the contact number of the survey you are inquiring about. BEA will use the Secure Messaging System to initiate any new email contact with you.

  • What if I don’t have an eFile ID?

  • If you have eFiled a survey with BEA before, then you will have already been assigned an eFile ID for that survey and you’ll find it on the survey-related correspondence you received from BEA. If you do not know the eFile ID, you can request that a survey be linked after logging in to your user account. You will need to 1) create a new user account at https://www.bea.gov/efile, and 2) request that a survey be linked to your user account by providing all the required information.

  • What if I have an eFile ID but don’t have a password?

  • If you have an eFile ID for a survey but do not have an eFile password, you can request that a survey be linked after logging in to your user account. You will need to 1) create a new user account at https://www.bea.gov/efile, and 2) request that a survey be linked to your user account by providing all the required information, including the eFile ID for the survey you want to link

  • How do I know if I have received a secure message from the BEA?

  • An email notification will be sent to the email address on file notifying the company that there is a secure message. The email notification will also contain a link to the Secure Messaging System, along with instructions to log in to view the message.

  • What if the contact person at my company changes?

  • Because emails are kept in our Secure Messaging System, employee changes will have no effect on email storage. Previous communications will be available when you log into the Secure Messaging System. When there is a role change, be sure to update eFile with the current contact name and email so that notification messages are sent to the appropriate person on your staff. (Please note, ALL contact information should be reviewed and updated regularly.)
