Compensation of survivors of public safety officers

These benefits are payments to the survivors of state and local government employees, such as police officers and fire fighters, who are killed in the line of duty; the payments are made under a Federal program. In 1988, the payment was $100,000. Since 1988, it has been $100,000 plus an allowance for the increase in consumer prices.

The national estimate is allocated to states by the tabulations of the number of claims by state from the Department of Justice. The county allocator is the number of claims by city from the same tabulations.
