The major functions of the National Accounts Research and Analysis Group are research on economic measurement and technical support for BEA’s accounts. These functions continually advance the accuracy, reliability, and relevance of BEA’s national and industry statistics, such as gross domestic product and GDP by industry. The office also collaborates on research across BEA and with counterparts in other U.S. statistical offices and regularly liaises with foreign statistical offices, international organizations, and the academic community.

Primary areas of research include GDP and its components, personal income, industry-level production measures, supply-use tables, measures of capital, depreciation profiles, price indices, seasonal adjustment, and special topics such as digitalization, globalization, and well-being.
