Better source data improved the coverage and accuracy of the travel, passenger fares, and transportation accounts. Partner-country data began to be used in developing estimates of travel transactions with Mexico. New estimates of U.S. international cruise transactions, of interline settlements between U.S. and foreign airlines, and of U.S. rail carriers’ revenues for transporting foreign-owned goods shipped through the United States from one foreign destination to another were introduced. These improvements, except for the improvement to rail transport, begin with estimates for 1984; the improvement to rail transport begins with estimates for 1986.
