Introducing Expanded Indicators in the U.S. Household Production Economic Statistics PDF
This paper presents a significant expansion of indicators in BEA’s household production economic statistics. It expands service-level detail, adds expenditure and gross output measures, and aligns household production with comparable market industries. Household production remains a significant share of consumption, even though it has declined as a share of total output. The household sector dominates final consumption for the services it produces. The new indicators enable clearer comparisons between market and non-market production.
