County Estimates of Compensation by Industry, 2003–2005

Today, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released county estimates of compensation by industry for 2003–2005. The estimates for 2003–2004 have been revised to incorporate newly available source data; the estimates for 2005 are released for the first time.

Compensation—the sum of wage and salary disbursements and supplements to wages and salaries—is a key statistic in the personal income account. The estimates of compensation by industry cover 114 industries and aggregates for 3,111 counties. In addition to the county estimates, BEA also is releasing compensation by industry for metropolitan areas, metropolitan divisions, micropolitan areas, combined statistical areas, and BEA economic areas. A sample table for Los Angeles County, California is attached. Tables for all areas for 1998–2005 can be accessed interactively at www.bea.gov/bea/regional/reis.

Tables presenting the comprehensive measure of personal income for local areas—including CA05, Personal Income by Major Source and Earnings by Industry—will be released April 26, 2007.

By visiting BEA's Web site: www.bea.gov, you can also subscribe to e–mail notifications of BEA's various news releases and announcements.

NOTE: The metropolitan area, metropolitan division, micropolitan area, and combined statistical area definitions used for this release incorporate the statistical area definition updates published by the Office of Management and Budget December 5, 2005 (OMB Bulletin No. 06–01).
