The U.S. monthly international trade deficit decreased in June 2022 according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and the U.S. Census Bureau. The deficit decreased from $84.9 billion in May (revised) to $79.6 billion in June, as exports increased and imports decreased. The previously published May deficit was $85.5 billion. The goods deficit decreased$4.9 billion in June to $99.5 billion. The services surplus increased $0.3 billion in June to $19.9 billion.

Exports
Exports of goods and services increased $4.3 billion, or 1.7 percent, in June to $260.8 billion. Exports of goods increased $3.5 billion and exports of services increased $0.7 billion.
  • The increase in exports of goods reflected increases in industrial supplies and materials ($4.7 billion) and in foods, feeds, and beverages($0.9 billion). A decrease in capital goods ($1.1 billion) partly offset the increases.
  • The increase in exports of services reflected increases in travel ($0.3 billion) and in transport ($0.3 billion).

Imports
Imports of goods and services decreased $1.0 billion, or 0.3 percent, in June to $340.4 billion. Imports of goods decreased $1.4 billion and imports of services increased $0.4 billion.

  • The decrease in imports of goods reflected a decrease in automotive vehicles, parts, and engines ($2.7 billion). Increases in capital goods($0.9 billion) and in industrial supplies and materials ($0.6 billion) partly offset the decrease.
  • The increase in imports of services reflected increases in transport ($0.1 billion), in travel ($0.1 billion), and in other business services ($0.1 billion).
