Finance and insurance; retail trade; and health care and social assistance were the leading contributors to the increase in U.S. economic growth in the first quarter of 2019. Overall, 16 of 22 industry groups contributed to the 3.1 percent increase in real GDP in the first quarter.

Wholesale trade; mining; and information were the leading contributors to the increase in U.S. economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2018. Overall, 15 of 22 industry groups contributed to the 2.2 percent increase in real GDP in the fourth quarter.

Wholesale trade; information; and finance and insurance were the leading contributors to the increase in U.S. economic growth in the third quarter of 2018. According to gross domestic product (GDP) by industry statistics released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, 19 of 22 industry groups contributed to the overall 3.4 percent increase in real GDP in the third quarter.
