Personal Income by State, 1st Quarter 2022
State personal income increased 4.8 percent at an annual rate in the first quarter of 2022 after increasing 3.6 percent in the fourth quarter of 2021. The percent change in personal income across all states ranged from 8.5 percent in South Dakota to 1.3 percent in Hawaii.

Personal Income by State, 2021 (Preliminary) and 4th Quarter 2021
State personal income increased 7.4 percent in 2021 after increasing 6.6 percent in 2020. In 2021, increases in earnings, transfer receipts, and property income (dividends, interest, and rent) contributed to personal income growth in all states and the District of Columbia. The percent change in personal income across all states ranged from 9.6 percent in Idaho to 4.5 percent in Vermont.

Personal Income by State, 3rd Quarter 2021
State personal income increased 2.6 percent at an annual rate in the third quarter of 2021 after decreasing 20.2 percent in the second quarter. The percent change in personal income across all states ranged from 6.7 percent in Kentucky to –4.5 percent in North Dakota.

Personal Income by State, 2nd Quarter 2021
State personal income decreased 21.8 percent at an annual rate in the second quarter of 2021 after increasing 56.9 percent in the first quarter. In the second quarter of 2021, the decrease in transfer receipts was the leading contributor to personal income declines in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The percent change in personal income across all states ranged from -10.1 percent in the District of Columbia to -34.0 percent in West Virginia.

State personal income increased 59.7 percent at an annual rate in the first quarter of 2021 after decreasing 3.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2020. In the first quarter of 2021, the increase in transfer receipts was the leading contributor to personal income growth in all states and the District of Columbia. The percent change in personal income ranged from 89.3 percent in Mississippi to 31.1 percent in the District of Columbia.
