BEA Developing Updated Economic Release Schedule

November 14, 2025

SUITLAND, Md. – The Bureau of Economic Analysis is working to update its schedule of economic releases, which was affected by the government shutdown.

BEA is consulting with the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and other data suppliers to determine the availability of data used to produce our economic indicators. We will publish updated release dates as soon as they are available. Check our website for this information.

BEA estimates the nation’s gross domestic product and produces statistics on U.S. personal income and spending, industries, state and local economies, and foreign trade and investment.

BEA’s release of the annual update of gross domestic product and related statistics, including GDP by industry, begins Sept. 25. Updates of state and county statistics start Sept. 26.

Regular annual updates, typically reaching back five years, enable the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis to refine our estimates as more complete source data become available, such as federal budget data, farm income and production statistics, Census Bureau survey data, and BEA’s own International Transactions Accounts.

BEA Updates Regional Economic Impact Tool

July 17, 2024

BEA's economic modeling tool that helps users analyze how a proposed project would ripple through a region's economy is now updated with new benchmark data.

State and local governments, civic leaders, planners, investors, and others use the tool to assess the economic impact of projects or events within their selected area. For example, building an apartment complex would require buying building materials from local retailers and wholesalers, leasing equipment, and hiring tradespeople. Employees of these and other local businesses would have additional wages to spend, perhaps on household needs or recreation.

For example, the share of state personal income received by the top 20 percent of households in 2021 ranged from lows of 43.1 percent in Maine and 43.7 percent in Maryland to highs of 53.8 percent in Connecticut and 54.1 percent in Wyoming, according to the prototype statistics.

BEA Milestone: We’ve Got Your ‘Harmonized’ Number

September 29, 2023

Vipin Arora Official Portrait

A blog post from BEA Director Vipin Arora

I recently bought a pair of shorts that fit just right. They were so good that I bought a pair of jeans from the same brand. Somehow—and we've all been here—the jeans fit tighter than the shorts, even though they were made by the same company. This isn't too different from what I sometimes go through as a data user.

Benchmark Updates of GDP and More Starting Sept. 28

September 5, 2023

For the first time, the Bureau of Economic Analysis will produce its benchmark updates of the nation’s gross domestic product and related industry and state statistics within the same timeframe. The updates will begin with initial results Sept. 28 and 29.

Previously, the benchmark updates of national, industry, and state data were conducted separately and spread over five months. Coordinating these statistics allows data users to easily move between consistent data sets to view and analyze a fuller picture of the economy.
