In 2018, personal income increased in 3,019 counties, decreased in 91, and was unchanged in 3, according to estimates released today by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). Personal income
increased 5.7 percent in the metropolitan portion of the United States and increased 4.8 percent in the nonmetropolitan portion. In metropolitan counties, the percent change in personal income ranged from
−3.2 percent in Lynn County, Texas to 17.5 percent in Midland County, Texas. In nonmetropolitan counties, it ranged from −20.8 percent in Sherman County, Texas, to 64.5 percent in Issaquena County,
Mississippi.

Local Area Personal Income, 2017

Personal income increased in 2,787 counties, decreased in 318, and was unchanged in 8 in 2017. Personal income increased 4.5 percent in the metropolitan portion of the United States and increased 3.2 percent in the nonmetropolitan portion in 2017. The change in personal income ranged from -41.4 percent in Slope County, North Dakota to 23.7 percent in Crosby County, Texas in 2017.

Personal income grew in 2016 in 2,285 counties, fell in 795, and was unchanged in 33, according to estimates released today by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. On average, personal income rose 2.5 percent in 2016 in the metropolitan portion of the United States and rose 1.0 percent in the nonmetropolitan portion. Personal income growth in 2016 ranged from -40.8 percent in Kenedy County, Texas to 27.1 percent in Tillman County, Oklahoma.

On average, personal income rose 4.7 percent in 2015 in the metropolitan portion of the United States and rose 2.7 percent in the nonmetropolitan portion. Personal income growth in 2015 ranged from -30.3 percent in Sully County, South Dakota to 35.0 percent in Loving County, Texas.
