U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services, February 2025

The U.S. monthly international trade deficit decreased in February 2025 according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and the U.S. Census Bureau. The deficit decreased from $130.7 billion in January (revised) to $122.7 billion in February, as exports increased and imports decreased. The goods deficit decreased $8.8 billion in February to $147.0 billion. The services surplus decreased $0.8 billion in February to $24.3 billion.

Real gross domestic product increased at an annual rate of 1.3 percent in the first quarter of 2024, according to the “second” estimate. In the fourth quarter of 2023, real GDP increased 3.4 percent. The GDP estimate for the first quarter was revised down 0.3 percentage point from the “advance” estimate, primarily reflecting a downward revision to consumer spending.

Research and development activity accounted for 2.3 percent of the U.S. economy in 2021, according to new experimental statistics released today by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
